Tehran IKIA Airport's Salam Terminal Ready for Inauguration

EghtesadOnline: Imam Khomeini Airport’s Salam Terminal is ready for inauguration, managing director of Imam Khomeini Airport City Company Ali Rostami said after a visit to the new terminal on Saturday.

According to the official, the construction phase of the terminal has been completed and only a few steps remain, including the installation of equipment, the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development's news service reported.

Salam Terminal has the capacity to transport five million passengers per year.

According to Rostami, the terminal will operate both domestic and international flights, Financial Tribune reported.

Plans are underway to build another terminal at the IKIA airport.

Iranshahr Terminal’s first development phase has been designed to handle 25 million passengers per year and will reach 110 million passengers annually upon the completion of its third and final phase.

IKIA presently has a passenger capacity of around five million per year. However, in the fiscal 2017-18, the airport hosted over nine million passengers.

Iran Airports Company’s latest report shows Imam Khomeini International Airport registered 3,993 takeoffs and landings during the first month of the current Iranian year (March 21-April 20)—a 31% decline compared with last year's corresponding period.

A total of 657,516 passengers and 13,067 tons of cargos were transported through the airport during the period to be ranked third on the list of Iran’s busiest airports. The figures show respective declines of 26% and 18% YOY.

IKIA registered a traffic growth rate of 11.5% in 2017, 3% higher than the global average. It has the biggest share of international flights in Iran and Mehrabad the biggest in terms of domestic ones.

Tehran's Imam Khomeini International Airport has been distinguished as the third fastest-growing major airport in the world.

A study by Routes Online shows the airport grew in terms of passenger numbers by 48.6% during the first half of 2018 to 3.93 million, helped by Ata Airlines, following the rise in frequencies to Istanbul Ataturk.

Operated by Iran Airports Company, IKIA is located 30 kilometers southwest of Iran's capital city Tehran.
