The agreement was signed by Azerbaijan’s Deputy Minister of Transport, Communications and High Technologies Elmir Valizadeh and Iran’s Deputy ICT Minister Hossein Fallah, who is also the head of Iran Communications Regulatory Authority, during the meeting held in Baku on May 15-16, IRNA reported.
Joint ICT development plans are envisaged in the agreement, which focus on developing communication infrastructures, expanding Internet coverage, space and satellite technologies, radio frequency management, cybersecurity, postal services and mobile network management.
Based on the deal, the two countries are committed to develop smart solutions for avoiding the interference of radio and television signals along their shared border. They also agreed to jointly develop postal services and help promote technological activities by holding joint exhibitions and conferences, Financial Tribune reported.
The neighboring countries also agreed to develop a joint research and development taskforce in space and satellite technologies by exchanging ICT experts, university students and instructors, as well as sharing laboratories, research facilities and scientific experiences.
Addressing the meeting, Valizadeh said the main goal of the workgroup is to expand bilateral cooperation in the fields of information and communications technology, adding that further negotiations can help prepare the ground for increasing cooperation in the field.
Highlighting the importance of expanding bilateral and multilateral relations between Iran and regional countries, Fallah said Iran, Azerbaijan, Turkey and Russia can cooperate in a wide range of ICT fields.
The plans will be further scrutinized during an upcoming meeting that will be held soon in Tehran.
