"The US reimposition of sanctions and its economic war on Iranian people have hindered international projects, especially in the fight against drugs," Foreign Minister Mohammed Javad Zarif said during a ceremony on Monday on the occasion of the upcoming International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (June 26), ISNA reported.
He highlighted Iran's notable achievements in fighting drug trafficking, complaining that major donors to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime have gradually reduced their funding for projects run by Iran.
Zarif called on the international community to take joint responsibility and resume their technical contributions to control drug trafficking and its impacts worldwide, according to Financial Tribune.
"If one group thinks the issue of drugs belongs to a certain region, that group will not be immune from its dangerous consequences," he said.
