Mobile Power Plant for Sistan-Baluchestan Province

EghtesadOnline: To help prevent power disruption in Saravan city in Sistan-Baluchestan Province, a mobile power plant was synchronized with the national grid on Wednesday, the project manager said.

"The 25-megawatt plant can help reduce blackouts in the province," Mohsen Nikbakht was also quoted as saying by IRNA.

Thermal Power Plant Holding, a subsidiary of the Energy Ministry, launched the venture in the deprived region in about three months, he added.

According to the official, power plants in Sistan-Baluchestan have the capacity to generate 1,066 MW of power, while the province requires at least 1,500 MW of electricity to avoid frequent power outages that have adversely affected industrial units, taking a toll on electrical equipment and reducing efficiency, Financial Tribune reported.

Electricity consumption in the province reached a peak of 1,510 MW last week.

Nikbakht noted that an estimated 102 MW of power were exported to neighboring countries, namely Pakistan and Afghanistan, from the province between March and May.

The portable trailer-mounted 25-MW mobile turbine, enjoying a space-saving design, can operate on different fuel sources, namely natural gas and diesel. It can be transported by land, air, or sea for rapid deployment. Once installed, the gas turbine starts producing electricity within 25 minutes.

Referring to ongoing projects, Nikbakht noted that three power stations are under construction in Zahedan, Chabahar and Iranshahr with a total power generation capacity of 1,300 MW.

Sistan-Baluchestan is an underdeveloped and poor province, and needs investment and more attention for developing its energy infrastructure. It is hoped that with the expansion of energy infrastructure, other development indices in the province will also improve.
