Turkey, Russia, Iran Summit Set for August

EghtesadOnline: The Turkish presidential spokesman on Thursday said Ankara will host a trilateral summit with the participation of Russia and Iran in August.

"The meeting will mainly be on Idlib and other parts of Syria, on the general security situation, transition processes, constitutional commission and resettlement [of refugees]," Ibrahim Kalin said, Anadolu Agency reported.

After a Cabinet meeting in capital Ankara, Kalin also said there would be another meeting with Russian, German and French leaders in two months.

"During the G20 summit, it was agreed to hold a four-party summit like last year’s in Istanbul to be hosted by our president. A quadrilateral summit is planned before going to the UN General Assembly," Financial Tribune quoted him as saying.

Kalin underlined that Syria and regional issues will be discussed in these meetings.

Iran, Russia and Turkey are key players in an international Syrian peace process and meet regularly to discuss political solutions to the lingering crisis afflicting the Arab country, after the mostly successful campaign by the Syrian government backed by Tehran and Moscow to recapture regions overrun by militants who had the support of foreign countries, including Turkey.
