EghtesadOnline: Iranian steelmakers produced a total of 7.85 million tons of products during the first two Iranian months (March 20-May 21) to register a 7.73% year-on-year increase, according to the Iranian Steel Producers Association's latest report.

Semi-finished steel made up 4.33 million tons of the total output, up 2% year-on-year.

Billet and bloom made up 2.56 million tons of all semi-finished production volume while slab output hit 1.76 million tons to register a 15% rise and a 13% decline respectively YOY.

As for finished steel, output increased by 16% YOY to reach 3.52 million tons, according to Financial Tribune.

Flat steel products had the lion's share of finished steel production with 1.83 million tons, up 15% YOY. HRC made up 1.58 million tons of the production in this category, registering a 13% growth YOY, followed by CRC with 290,000 tons (down 19% YOY) and coated coil with 233,000 tons (up 13% YOY).

This is while long steel products had a 1.68-million-ton share in the output of finished steel products during the two months to register an 18% rise YOY. Rebar had the major share with 1.32 million tons (up 18% YOY), followed by beams with 226,000 tons (up 31% YOY) and L-beam, T-beam and other types with 134,000 tons (up 2% YOY).

Iran’s direct-reduced iron production is also registering a healthy growth. It stood at 4.99 million tons during the period, indicating a 9% rise YOY.

Iran’s crude steel output stood at 24.52 million tons in 2018, according to the World Steel Association, up 17.7% YOY, placing the country as the world’s 10th major steel producer during the year.

Notably, Iran was the second biggest producer of direct reduced iron with 25.54 million tons of output in 2018.

India, Iran's primary rival in DRI output, increased its 2018 production by 2.9% YOY to 30.36 million tons.

Worldsteel's latest report showed Iranian steel mills produced a total of 10.62 million tons of crude steel during the first five months of 2019, up 5.5% compared with the corresponding period of 2018, the latest report released by the World Steel Association shows.

Iran’s May output grew 3.8% year-on-year to hit 2.23 million tons, according to the Brussels-based international trade body for the iron and steel industry.

Iran’s world ranking remains unchanged as the 10th biggest crude steel producer. The country is placed between Brazil (ninth) with 14.02 million tons and Italy (11th) with 10.47 million tons, the new report shows.

The world’s 64 steelmakers produced a total of 764.07 million tons of steel over the five months, up 5% YOY.

Global steel output stood at 162.74 million tons in May, indicating a 5.4% increase YOY.

China was the world’s largest crude steel producer with 404.87 million tons of steel output, up 10.2% YOY.
