Iran Capital Market Worth $102 Billion

EghtesadOnline: Total market capitalization of Iran’s four bourses (Tehran Stock Exchange, Iran Fara Bourse, Iran Mercantile Exchange and Iran Energy Exchange) reached 12,282 trillion rials ($102.3 billion) by the end of third Persian month to June 21 -- up 9.3% compared to a month earlier.

The figure also indicates 106.5% rise compared to the corresponding period in the last fiscal year that ended on March 20. 

According to a report by the Statistics and Risk Analysis Department of Securities and Exchange Organization, published in Securities and Exchange News Agency’s website, the TSE was the top performer during the period with a market cap of 9,091 trillion rials ($75.7 billion), up 8.4% monthly and 31% compared to figures reported for the beginning of the present fiscal year on March 21. 

The market cap for IFB (junior stock market) and IRENEX reached 3,141 trillion rials ($26.1 billion) and 40 trillion rials ($333 million) respectively, indicating 27.1% and 4.9% growth compared to the beginning of the year, Financial Tribune reported.

Compared to figures reported for a month earlier and beginning of the year, the IME performed poorly with a market cap of 9.5 trillion rials, registering 2.5% and 1.6% decline, respectively. 

Market cap is the market value of a publicly traded company's outstanding shares. It is calculated by multiplying the number of shares outstanding by the current market price of one share.

In terms of industries with the highest market cap in TSE and IFB, chemicals topped the list, accounting for 23.7% of the total market cap, followed by basic metals and extraction of metal ores, respectively accounting for 15.4% and 8.7% of the market cap. 

The main TSE’s index, TEDPIX, rose 31.5% since the beginning of the current year to June 21. The main index of IFB, IFX, stood at 2,978 points on June 21, registering 31.9% growth.   

 

Value of Trade 

The report on overall value of trade in all four burses during the month to June 21 indicates a 13.6% monthly decline as value of trade reduced from 601.3 trillion rials during the month to May 21 to 519.5 trillion rials during the month under review.  

Total value of outstanding debt securities issued up until June 21 amounted to 1,028 trillion rials ($8.5 billion). Securities issued by the government had the lion’s share with 81.9% followed by private companies and municipalities each respectively accounting for 16.4% and 1.7% of the total issued securities.
