Russian Prime Minister Dmitri Medvedev made the remarks in a Monday meeting with Iran’s First Vice President Es’haq Jahangiri in Turkmenistan’s coastal city of Turkmenbashi, where they took part in the first Caspian Sea Economic Forum, Press TV reported.
The Russian official also said Iran's stance on Washington's unilateral withdrawal from the nuclear agreement is "logical" and "strong".
"The US pullout from the JCPOA was a baseless measure and all world countries realize this," Financial Tribune quoted Medvedev as saying.
Stressing that Russia's stance and policy concerning JCPOA is similar to that of Iran, Medvedev said, “Russian officials ... acknowledge this point and view [US] sanctions against Tehran as illegal."
Jahangiri said the United States seeks to sow insecurity in the Persian Gulf and the strategic Strait of Hormuz to use it as an excuse for military buildup in this region.
“Although Iran has been trying through centuries to protect security in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, Americans have been recently seeking to stoke insecurity in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz to use it as an excuse to form a maritime [military] coalition,” he said.
