SCI Scrutinizes Inflation Rates of Iranian Provinces

EghtesadOnline: Ilam Province’s goods and services Consumer Price Index registered an increase of 54.8% during the fifth month of the current Iranian year (July 23-Aug. 22) compared with the similar month of last year, the highest among all provinces.

The year-on-year CPI increase was the lowest for Fars Province with 34.6%, the Statistical Center of Iran reported.  

The overall goods and services CPI in Iran registered a YOY increase of 41.6% in the same month. 

The overall CPI calculated for the country (using the Iranian year to March 2017 as the base year) stood at 180.8 in the month ending Aug. 22, indicating a 0.6% rise compared with the previous month. The growth in overall CPI compared with the previous month was the highest (2.8%) for Lorestan and lowest (0.4%) for Kurdestan, according to Financial Tribune.

The average goods and services CPI in Iran for the 12-month period ending Aug. 22 increased by 42.2% compared with last year’s corresponding period. Kurdestan saw the highest annual inflation with 50.8% while Qom posted the lowest of 35.7%. 

 

 

Urban Households 

The overall CPI calculated for urban areas stood at 179.7 during the fifth month of the Iranian year, indicating a 0.7% rise compared with the previous month. 

The growth in CPI measured for urban households compared with the previous month was the highest (3.1%) for Lorestan and lowest (0.4%) for Kurdestan.   

The index registered an average year-on-year increase of 40.8% for urban areas. Goods and Services Consumer Price Index of Ilam’s urban areas registered a year-on-year increase of 53.7% during the Iranian month ending Aug. 22, the highest among all provinces. This is while the YOY CPI increase of urban areas was the lowest for Fars with 32.5%.

The overall goods and services CPI of urban areas for the 12-month period ending Aug. 22 increased by 41.4% compared with last year’s corresponding period. 

Ilam registered the highest 12-month inflation of urban areas with 50.2% while Hormozgan posted the lowest annual inflation of 35.4%. 

 

 

Rural Households

The overall CPI calculated for rural areas stood at 187.1 in the month under review, indicating a 0.3% rise compared with the previous month. The growth in CPI of rural areas compared with the previous month was highest (2.1%) for Lorestan and lowest (1%) for Hamedan.   

The index registered an average year-on-year increase of 46.1% for rural areas in the same month. The rural areas of Ilam’s goods and services Consumer Price Index registered a YOY increase of 59.9% during the fifth month of the Iranian year, the highest among all provinces, whereas the YOY CPI increase of rural areas was the lowest for Kerman with 40.6%. 

The goods and services CPI of rural areas in the 12-month period leading to Aug. 22 increased by 46.6% compared with last year’s corresponding period. 

Kurdestan registered the highest 12-month inflation of rural areas with 55.9% while Alborz posted the lowest annual inflation of 39.1%.
