KSC Top Steel Exporter During 5 Months to Aug. 22

EghtesadOnline: With a total of 887,543 tons of exports in the first five months of the current fiscal year (March 21-Aug. 22) and 174,772 tons in the fifth month (July 23-Aug. 22), Khouzestan Steel Company was Iran's biggest exporter of steel during the period under review.

The mill experienced a year-on-year decline of 20% in exports during the five months, but saw a growth of 15% in the fifth month, latest data released by the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization show.

The steelmaker, located in the southwestern Khuzestan Province, exports to over a dozen countries.

About half of KSC's exports go to the Middle East and North Africa region. Its other major export destinations are located in the Far East and the Americas, according to Financial Tribune.

Mobarakeh Steel Company, located in Isfahan, was the second biggest exporter as it shipped out 593,074 tons of products during the five months under review, down 1% compared with last year's corresponding period.

The company is the largest steelmaker in the MENA region and one of the largest industrial complexes operating in Iran.

During the fifth month of the current fiscal year, MSC exported 91,265 tons and registered a 36% decline YOY.

Esfahan Steel Company (ESCO) came third as it exported 464,340 tons during the five months, unchanged compared with last year's corresponding period.

During the month to Aug. 22, ESCO exported 103,830 tons to register a YOY increase of 11%.

Most of the other producers registered downturns during the five-month period.

Hormozgan Steel Company exported 308,559 tons of slabs, down 17% YOY.

South Kaveh Steel Company exported 370,100 tons of billet, up 52% YOY, while Chadormalou Mining and Industrial Company exported 104,016 tons of the product during the five months.

Khorasan Steel Company shipped out 92,156 tons of bloom, indicating a 23% growth YOY. In addition, the company exported 4,362 tons of rebar, down 86% YOY.

Iran Alloy Steel Company shipped out 20,554 tons of rebar, down 36% YOY. 

South Kaveh Steel Company exported 44,960 tons of direct-reduced iron, up 12% YOY.

Bonab Steel Company exported 14,253 tons of rebar, up 787% YOY.

In the fifth month, the highest growth was registered by South Kaveh Steel Company as the steel mill exported 123,300 tons of products during the month, up by 194% YOY.

The above steelmakers, considered as major producers in Iran, exported a total of 2.9 million tons during the five months to register a year-on-year decline of 4%.

They shipped out 633,050 tons during the fifth month of the year, which shows a 37% increase compared with the same month of the year before.

Iran Steel Producers Association will release a more comprehensive report on Iran's steel exports in a few days, which also includes data for small-scale steel mills.

The above-mentioned steelmakers exported a total of 5.54 million tons of steel during the last fiscal year (ended March 20, 2019) to register a year-on-year decline of 25%.

With a total of 2.18 million tons of exports over the 12 months, Khouzestan Steel Company was Iran's biggest exporter of steel last year.

According to World Steel Association's latest data, Iran is the 10th biggest steel producer in the world, as it produced a total of 14.98 million tons of crude steel during the seven months of 2019 (January to July), up 6.4% compared with the corresponding period of 2018.

Iran is aggressively pursuing the target of becoming the world’s sixth largest steel producer as per the 20-Year Vision Plan, which targets annual production capacity expansion to 55 million tons and 20-25 million tons of exports per year by 2025. 

Iranian steel mills have so far realized about 34 million tons of the capacity target.

According to Chairman of the Board of Iranian Mines & Mining Industries Development & Renovation Khodadad Gharibpour, Iranian steel industry is an export-oriented one in that the country exports more than 40% of its steel production.
