Iran Industries Ministry Reviews 57 Products During Five Months

EghtesadOnline: The Ministry of Industries, Mining and Trade's review of 57 products in the industrial, mining, chemical and petrochemical categories in the first five months of the current Iranian year (March 21-Aug. 22) shows 36 products witnessed a year-on-year growth in output while 21 saw declines.

In general, production in the categories of mining and minerals as well as chemicals and petrochemicals showed better performance compared to production in the industrial sector, the Persian economic daily Donya-e-Eqtesad reported.

Cigarette, carton, particle board, tractor and polyester yarn were among the commodities that saw the highest growth in industrial production during the period under review. 

A total of 22.6 billion cigarettes were produced over the five months, up by 6.6 billion cigarettes or 41% compared with last year’s corresponding period, Financial Tribune reported.

Carton production stood at 307,600 tons, registering a year-on-year increase of around 32%.

This is while particle board production rose by more than 26% to 288,200 cubic meters.

A total of 7,445 tractors were produced during the period under review, indicating a 26% rise YOY.

The production of polyester yarn totaled 123,000 tons, by 25% YOY.

The highest decline in production was registered for traction unit; combine; bus, minibus and van; acrylic yarn; and other vehicles.

A total of 1,884 tractors and 159 combines were produced during the period, down by 69% and 64% respectively YOY.

The production of bus, minibus and van stood at 712 units, down by 62% YOY. The output of acrylic yarn stood at 750 tons, down 53% YOY.

The output of other types of vehicles fell by 40% YOY to 291,100.

Among 13 mineral products, four witnessed declines while nine witnessed growth during the period.

The products with the highest YOY rise in this category included porcelain, sanitaryware, flat glass, glassware and copper cathodes.

A total of 23,800 tons of porcelain were produced during the five months ending Aug. 22, up by 24% YOY.

The output of sanitaryware stood at 45,000 tons to register a 20% rise YOY.

Flat sheet production amounted to 457,100 tons, up by 19.5% YOY, and glassware production rose 18% YOY to 228,900 tons.

Copper cathode production saw an 18% growth YOY to 117,800 tons.

An aggregate of 20.13 million tons of chemical products were produced during the period, registering a 1% rise YOY.

The production of polymer products totaled 3.05 million tons.
