According to reports, the leakage occurred on September 13, about 4 kilometers off the coast of Kharg Island, the Oil Ministry news agency Shana reported.
Members from the HSE department of IOOC were dispatched to find the leak location and took measures to fix it.
After plugging the leakage, the oil spill was cleaned by spraying oil spill eater, which is the world’s most environmentally safe and cost effective bioremediation product, for the mitigation of hazardous waste, spills and contamination, Financial Tribune reported.
However, after a few days the oil spill reached the coast of Kharg Island and was also soon cleaned up.
IOOC is in charge of developing oil reservoirs in the Persian Gulf, including Abouzar, Forouzan, Hendijan, Bahregansar, Reshadat, Soroush, Norouz, Salman and Doroud fields.
It is in charge of collecting associated petroleum gases on Kharg Island and in the Bahregan oil region in the Persian Gulf.
Abouzar Oilfield is located 76km southwest of Kharg Island – Iran’s main oil loading and export terminal.
Crude oil output from Abouzar stands at 240,000 barrels per day, making it one of the major offshore oilfields. The field's output is moved via subsea pipelines to Kharg Island for export.
The field holds 4 billion barrels of in-place crude oil, but only 20% of the deposit is currently recoverable through 67 active wells.
