Sarakhs Exports via Railroad Rise 90% in H1

EghtesadOnline: More than 606,000 tons of commodities were exported to Central Asian countries via railroad from the Sarakhs Border Terminal in the northeastern Khorasan Razavi Province during the first half of the current Iranian year (March 21-Sept. 22), showing a 90% surge compared with the corresponding period of last year.

According to Director General of Khorasan Razavi Railroad Organization Mostafa Nassiri, cement accounted for 77% of the exported products.

The main export destination was Uzbekistan, as around 80% of the exports headed to this neighboring country, Financial Tribune reported.

“Other main destinations were Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan,” the official was quoted as saying by the news portal of the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development.

Among the reasons for the rise in exports from Sarakhs Border Terminal, according to the official, are the expanding loading and unloading facilities and the increasing capacity of simultaneous loading, which has rise from 50 wagons to 250 wagons.

“With 533,000 tons, Khorasan Razavi Province ranked first among the country’s 31 provinces in exports via railroad during the six-month period,” Nassiri said.
