Iran's Consumer Inflation at 42%

EghtesadOnline: The average goods and services Consumer Price Index in Iran for the 12-month period ending Oct. 22 increased by 42% compared with last year’s corresponding period.

The Statistical Center of Iran had put the annual inflation rate for the preceding Iranian month, which ended on Sept. 22 at 42.7%. 

The overall CPI (using the Iranian year to March 2017 as the base year) stood at 184.9 last month, indicating a 1.7% rise compared with the month before, SCI’s latest data show.

Consumer inflation registered a year-on-year increase of 28.3% compared with the similar month of last year, Financial Tribune reported.

The CPI index registered a year-on-year increase of 28.3% for urban areas and 28.5% for rural areas compared with the similar month of last year. 

The overall CPI reached 184.2 for urban households and 188.6 for rural households, indicating a month-on-month increase of 1.9% and 0.8% for urban and rural areas, respectively.

SCI put urban and rural 12-month inflation for the month under the review at 41.3% and 46.3% respectively. 

 

 

Foods & Beverages

With the coefficient of 26.64%, the Consumer Price Index of “food and beverages” stood at 212.7 in the month ending Oct. 22, indicating a 1.1% decrease compared with the month before. 

The “food and beverages” index registered a year-on-year increase of 33.6% compared with the similar month of last year. 

The CPI of “food and beverages” group in the 12-month period ending Oct. 22 increased by 60.8% compared with last year’s corresponding period. 

 

 

Tobacco

The CPI of “tobacco” stood at 278.5 last month, indicating no change compared with the month before. 

The “tobacco” index, which has minimum impact on the total inflation rate with a coefficient of 0.59%, registered a year-on-year decrease of 0.7%. 

The CPI of this group in the 12-month period ending Oct. 22 increased by 80% compared with last year’s corresponding period, which was the highest annual inflation registered among 12 groups of goods and services. 

 

 

Clothing & Shoes

With a coefficient of 4.78%, the CPI of “clothing and shoes” stood at 200.5 last month, indicating a 2% increase compared with the month before. 

The “clothing and shoes” index registered a year-on-year increase of 40% in the month under review. The annual CPI of the group increased by 51.5% compared with last year’s corresponding period.

 

 

Housing, Water, Electricity, Natural Gas & Other Fuels

The CPI of “housing, water, electricity, natural gas and other fuels” stood at 161.2 last month, indicating a 4.4% increase compared with the month before. 

The group’s CPI index, which has the biggest impact on total inflation rate with a coefficient of 35.5%, registered a year-on-year increase of 23.5%. 

The 12-month CPI of this group increased by 23.8% compared with last year’s corresponding period.

 

 

Furniture, Home Appliances & Their Maintenance 

With a coefficient of 3.93%, the CPI of “furniture, home appliances and their maintenance” stood at 229.1 last month, indicating a 1.4% increase compared with the month before. 

The group’s CPI index registered the highest year-on-year increase in the items and services basket with 42.3%. The annual CPI of the group increased by 69.7% compared with last year’s corresponding period.

 

 

Health & Treatment

The CPI of “health and treatment” stood at 161.7 last month, indicating a 2.6% increase compared with the month before. The index, with a coefficient of 7.14%, registered a year-on-year increase of 25.1% compared with the similar month of last year. “Health and treatment” group annual inflation during the month under review grew by 25.9% compared with last year’s corresponding period.

 

 

Transportation

With a coefficient of 9.41%, the CPI of “transportation” stood at 180.5% last month, indicating a 1% increase compared with the month before. The “transportation” index registered a year-on-year increase of 28.3%. The annual CPI of the group increased by 44.8% compared with last year’s corresponding period.

 

 

Communications

The CPI of “communications” stood at 145.4 last month, indicating a 0.6% decline compared with the month before. The index, with a coefficient of 2.87%, registered a year-on-year increase of 2.2%. “Communications” group annual inflation during the month under review grew by 30.5% compared with last year’s corresponding period.

 

 

Leisure & Culture

The CPI of “leisure and culture” group stood at 230.2 last month, indicating a 2.1% rise compared with the month before. The index, with a coefficient of 1.65%, registered a year-on-year increase of 33.8%. 

The group’s annual inflation during the month under review grew by 63.9% compared with last year’s corresponding period.

 

 

Education

With a coefficient of 1.86%, the CPI of “education” group stood at 170.9 last month, indicating a 12.7% increase compared with the month before. The “education” CPI index registered a year-on-year increase of 22.7%. The annual CPI of the group increased by 22.1% compared with last year’s corresponding period.

 

 

Hotels & Restaurants 

The CPI of “hotels and restaurants” stood at 185.2 last month, indicating a 1.7% growth compared with the month before. The index, with a coefficient of 1.44%, registered a year-on-year increase of 38.1%. The group’s annual inflation during the month under review grew by 41.9% compared with last year’s corresponding period.

 

 

Miscellaneous Items & Services

The CPI of goods and services categorized under “miscellaneous” group stood at 200.8 last month, indicating a 1.3% growth compared with the month before. The index, with a coefficient of 4.18%, posted a year-on-year increase of 28.4%. The group’s annual inflation during the month under review grew by 49.4% compared with last year’s corresponding period.
