“Located in Gachsaran County, Kohgilouyeh-Boyerahmad Province, the plant cost $8 million and was built be a private firm,” the Energy Ministry new portal Paven quoted Mahmoud Dasht-Bozorg as saying.
Khuzestan Regional Electric Company is responsible for supplying electricity to the southwestern Khuzestan Province as well as its eastern neighbor Kohgilouyeh-Boyerahmad.
Comprising three 9.7 MW units, the plant has a total capacity of 29.1 MW, according to Financial Tribune.
Distributed generation refers to electricity produced in small quantities near the point of use, as alternative or supplement to traditional centralized grid-connected power. It reduces the cost and complexity associated with transmission and distribution, while offsetting peak electricity demand and stabilizing the local grid.
Moreover, in a bid to meet the increasing demand for electricity in Gachsaran, a 25 MW thermal power plant will be connected to the national grid by the end of the current fiscal (March 2020).
Gachsaran is known as Iran's oil roof because of its lofty oil towers. It is home to the second largest oil field in Iran.
Located on the east of Behbahan in Khuzestan Province, Gachsaran has a population of 324,000 people and has 45,000 electricity subscribers.
As an active industrial region, Gachsaran is the biggest consumer of electricity in Kohgilouyeh-Boyerahmad.
