Dispute Resolution Mechanism for Startups in the Making

EghtesadOnline: The Iranian Judiciary and Iran E-Commerce Union are working on a dispute resolution mechanism for addressing issues facing startups, the union’s spokesperson said.

Reza Olfatnasab says, “With the help of judiciary, Iran E-Commerce Union is setting up a dispute resolution committee that would resolve complaints filed against startups.”

“The committee will deal with disputes claiming a maximum of 200 million rials ($1,770),” he added.

Olfatnasab was speaking during a tech event held in Rasht, Gilan Province, as part of a push by organizers of Iran Web and Mobile Festival to expand its reach to provinces, according to Financial Tribune.

Over the past few years, in tandem with the stellar surge in Iranian startups’ fortunes, the number of legal cases filed against them has mounted as well.

In many of these cases, the complaints had been reviewed by judges who were not familiar with the complexities of the digital economy, issuing orders censured by many as draconian.

The establishment of this dispute settlement committee would hopefully address this issue and cases related to e-commerce businesses would be resolved by people familiar with the sector.
