MSC Output Overtakes the Pack

EghtesadOnline: With 10.46 million tons of output, Mobarakeh Steel Company had the largest share of steel production in Iran during the first seven months of the current Iranian year (March 21-Oct. 22, 2019).

The company produced 4.97 million tons of finished steel during the period, 1% more compared with last year's corresponding period.

In addition, 5.49 million tons of semi-finished products were produced by MSC, down 1% year-on-year, the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization’s (IMIDRO) latest report shows.

Located in southwestern Isfahan, Mobarakeh Steel Company is the biggest steel producer in Iran and the Middle East and North Africa region, according to Financial Tribune.

In terms of finished steel production, MSC was followed by Esfahan Steel Company (ESCO) with 1.31 million tons (up 7% YOY), Oxin Steel Company with 484,968 tons (up 19% YOY), Khorasan Steel Company with 360,510 tons (up 11% YOY), Azarbaijan Steel Company with 206,733 tons (up 12% YOY) and IASCO with 188,650 tons—160,153 tons of rebar (up 13% YOY) and 28,497 tons of “other” products (up 365% YOY).

Major producers included Bonab Steel Company with 156,865 tons—906 tons of beams, 154,318 tons of rebar (up 171% YOY) and 1,641 tons of “other” products (down 54% YOY), Chaharmahal-Bakhtiari Automotive Sheet Company with 138,994 tons (up 15% YOY), Ahvaz Rolling and Pipe Manufacturing Company with 135,000 tons (up 13% YOY) and INSIG with 90,248 tons—64,572 tons of rebar (up 148% YOY), 19,281 tons of beam and 6,395 tons of pipes (up 74% YOY).

The above-mentioned steelmakers, considered as heavyweight producers in Iran, produced a total of 8.05 million tons of finished steel products, including hot- and cold-rolled coils, rebar, beams, pipes, wide and galvanized sheets during the period under review to register a 7% YOY growth. 

Their production of finished steel products stood at 1.07 million tons in the seventh fiscal month (Sept. 23-Oct. 22), posting a 4% rise year-on-year.

They produced a total of 11.92 million tons of semi-finished steel, including ingot, bloom and billet, during the seven months, up 4% YOY.

Following MSC in semis production was KSC with 2.19 million tons (unchanged YOY), followed by ESCO with 1.38 million tons (up 8% YOY), South Kaveh Steel Company with 682,947 tons (up 18% YOY), Khorasan Steel Company with 649,060 tons (up 8% YOY), Chadormalu Steel Company with 571,778 tons (up 16% YOY), Arfa Iron and Steel Company with 511,207 tons (up 7% YOY), Iran Alloy Steel Company with 271,737 tons (up 9% YOY), Bonab Steel Company with 155,512 tons (up 516%) and INSIG with 5,777 tons.

As for output during the seventh fiscal month ending Oct. 22, a total of 1.62 million tons of slab, bloom, billet and ingot were produced to register a 1% growth YOY.

Iran is the world's 10th biggest producer of steel and the second biggest producer of sponge iron after India, according to World Steel Association.

According to World Steel Association's latest data, Iran is the 10th biggest steel producer in the world. Worldsteel's latest report shows the country produced a total of 19.31 million tons of crude steel during January-September, up 6% compared with the corresponding period of 2018.

Iran is aggressively pursuing the target of becoming the world’s sixth largest steel producer as per the 20-Year Vision Plan, which targets annual production capacity expansion to 55 million tons and 20-25 million tons of exports per year by 2025. Iranian steel mills have so far realized about 34 million tons of the capacity target.

According to Deputy Minister of Industries, Mining and Trade Khodadad Gharibpour, Iranian steel industry is an export-oriented one that exports more than 40% of its steel output.
