With 11.9m Tons, MSC's Output Exceeds All Iranian Steelmakers'

EghtesadOnline: Mobarakeh Steel Company had the largest share of steel production in Iran with an output of 11.9 million tons in the first eight months of the current Iranian year (March 21-Nov. 21).

The company produced 5.62 million tons of finished steel during the period, posting no change compared with last year's corresponding period.

In addition, 6.28 million tons of semi-finished products were produced by MSC, registering a 1% decline year-on-year, the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization’s latest report shows.

Located in southwestern Isfahan, Mobarakeh Steel Company is the biggest steel producer in Iran and the Middle East & North Africa region, according to Financial Tribune.

In terms of finished steel production, MSC was followed by Esfahan Steel Company with 1.51 million tons (up 7% YOY), Oxin Steel Company with 525,432 tons (up 21% YOY), Khorasan Steel Company with 411,955 tons (up 11% YOY), Azarbaijan Steel Company with 238,930 tons (up 6% YOY) and IASCO with 204,971 tons—176,122 tons of rebar (up 9% YOY) and 28,849 tons of “other products” (up 326% YOY).

Bonab Steel Co. with 171,895 tons—906 tons of beams, 170,254 tons of rebar (up 198% YOY) and 1,641 tons of “other products” (down 54% YOY), Ahvaz Rolling and Pipe Manufacturing Co. with 160,000 tons (up 3% YOY), Chaharmahal-Bakhtiari Automotive Sheet Company with 150,119 tons (up 3% YOY) and INSIG with 110,890 tons—79,492 tons of rebar (up 119% YOY), 23,583 tons of beam and 7,815 tons of pipes (up 95% YOY) were other major finished steel producers.

In semis production, MSC was followed by KSC with 2.5 million tons (unchanged YOY), ESCO with 1.6 million tons (up 9% YOY), South Kaveh Steel Company with 783,860 tons (up 15% YOY), Khorasan Steel Company with 752,410 tons (up 11% YOY), Chadormalu Steel Company with 662,623 tons (up 15% YOY), Arfa Iron and Steel Co. with 584,733 tons (up 5% YOY), Iran Alloy Steel Company with 313,404 tons (up 10% YOY), Bonab Steel Co. with 175,585 tons (up 596%) and INSIG with 8,082 tons.

The above-mentioned steelmakers, considered heavyweight producers in Iran, produced a total of 22.78 million tons of steel (semis and finished) during the eight months to Nov. 21 to register a 10.69% rise year-on-year.

A total of 9.11 million tons of finished steel products, including hot- and cold-rolled coils, rebar, beams, pipes, wide and galvanized sheets were produced by these steel mills during the period under review to register a 6% YOY growth. 

Their production of finished steel products stood at 1.06 million tons in the eighth Iranian month (Oct. 23-Nov. 21), posting a 4% decline YOY.

They produced a total of 13.66 million tons of semi-finished steel, including ingot, bloom and billet (semi finished products) during the eight months, up 4% YOY.

As for semis output during the month ending Nov. 21, a total of 1.74 million tons of slab, bloom, billet and ingot were produced to register a 6% growth YOY.

 

 

Overall Production at 30.98m Tons

According to the Iranian Steel Producers Association's latest report, overall steel production in Iran, taking into account the output of small-scale producers as well as heavyweight ones, exceeded 30.98 million tons during the eight months to Nov. 21 to register a 5.82% YOY increase.

Semi-finished steel made up 17.42 million tons of the total output, up 5% YOY.

Billet and bloom made up 10.25 million tons of semi-finished production while slab output hit 7.17 million tons to register an 11% rise and 3% decline respectively YOY.

As for finished steel, the output increased 7% YOY to 13.55 million tons.

Flat steel products had the lion's share of finished steel production with 6.8 million tons, up 4% YOY. HRC comprised 5.71 million tons of the production in this category, registering a 3% growth YOY, followed by CRC with 1.71 million tons (up 4% YOY) and coated coil with 1.09 million tons (up 20% YOY).

Long steel products had a share of 6.75 million tons in the output of finished steel products, posting a 9% rise YOY. Rebar had a major share here with 5.45 million tons (up 9% YOY), followed by beams with 740,000 tons (up 22% YOY) and L-beam, T-beam and other types with 556,000 tons (up 9% YOY).

 

 

World's 10th Biggest Steelmaker

Iran is the world's 10th biggest producer of steel and the second biggest producer of sponge iron after India, according to World Steel Association.

According to World Steel Association's latest data, Iran is the 10th biggest producer of steel in the world. Worldsteel's latest report shows the country produced a total of 21.51 million tons of crude steel during the 10 months of 2019 (January to October), up 6.2% compared with the corresponding period of 2018.

The country is aggressively pursuing the target of becoming the world’s sixth largest steel producer as per the 20-Year Vision Plan, which targets annual production capacity expansion to 55 million tons and 20-25 million tons of exports per year by 2025. Iranian steel mills have so far realized about 34 million tons of the capacity target.

According to Chairman of Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Khodadad Gharibpour, Iranian steel industry is an export-oriented one that exports more than 40% of its steel output.
