Iron Ore Concentrate Output at 3.8m Tons in 1 Month

EghtesadOnline: A total of 3.8 million tons of iron ore concentrates were produced in Iran during the month to April 19 to register a 5% decline compared with the corresponding month of the year before.

Golgohar Mining and Industrial Complex accounted for 1.18 million tons of the total output to register an 18% year-on-year decline, latest data released by the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization show.

It was followed by Chadormalu Mining and Industrial Complex with 736,286 tons (down 21% YOY), Middle East Mines and Mining Industries Development Holding Company with 633,312 tons (up 37% YOY), Goharzamin Iron Ore Company with 387,417 tons (up 2% YOY), Iran Central Iron Ore Company with 278,621 tons (down 28% YOY), Opal Parsian Sangan with 258,880 tons (up 1% YOY), National Development Industrial and Mineral Company with 241,744 tons (up 138% YOY), Sabanour Mining and Industrial Development Company with 46,731 tons (up 31% YOY) and Jalalabad Iron Ore Complex with 32,652 tons (up 39% YOY).

The production of iron ore in the form of fines/lumps totaled 58,590 tons during the one-month period, going down 71% YOY.

Iran Central Iron Ore Company accounted for 37,890 tons of the total output (down 21% YOY), followed by Chadormalu Mining and Industrial Complex with 20,700 tons (up 4% YOY).

An IMIDRO report on under-construction iron ore concentrate production units suggests that a total of 23.15 million tons/year is expected to be added to Iran’s iron ore concentrate production capacity when all these units become operational in the fiscal 2023-24.

The report giving details on the units and their physical progress as of Nov. 21, 2019, shows Sangan Steel Mining Industries Company located in Khaf County of Khorasan Razavi Province will have a production capacity of 5 million tons/year upon completion. It is expected to become operational by the end of the current Iranian year (March 2021).

Kaveh Pars Steel Co., also located in Khaf, will become operational in the fiscal 2021-22. It will have a production capacity of 2.5 million tons/year upon completion.

Pasargad Steel Complex will have a capacity of 2.5 million tons/year. Located in Shiraz, capital of Fars Province, the project is expected to be launched by the fiscal yearend.

The second phase of Gohar Zamin Iron Ore, located in Sirjan, Kerman Province will have a production capacity of 2 million tons/year and will come on stream in the fiscal 2022-23.

Also coming on stream during the fiscal 2022-23, Sharq Mineral Supply & Production Company and Khorasan Steel Complex Company, located in Khaf, will have a capacity of 2.5 million tons upon completion.

The development project of Opal Parsian Sangan in Khaf will have a production capacity of 2.4 million tons/year. It is expected to be inaugurated in the fiscal 2023-24, during which the third phase of Gohar Zamin Iron Ore unit located in Baft, Kerman Province, will also become complete. The latter project will have a production capacity of 4 million tons/year.
