With $2.2b, MSC Sees Highest Sales Volume

EghtesadOnline: Mobarakeh Steel Company sold 391.44 trillion rials ($2.23 billion) worth of steel in the last fiscal year that ended on March 19, 2020, marking the highest among all Iranian steelmakers, according to Iran Steel Producers Association.

With 17.22 million tons of output, MSC had the largest share of steel production in the country during the year under review.

The company produced 8.09 million tons of finished steel during the year, posting a 2% rise compared with last year's corresponding period.

In addition, 9.12 million tons of semi-finished products were produced by MSC, up 1% year-on-year, the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization’s latest report shows.

Located in southwestern Isfahan, Mobarakeh Steel Company is the biggest steel producer in Iran and the Middle East & North Africa region.

MSC was the second biggest exporter of the year as it shipped out 1.45 million tons of products, up 65% compared to last year's corresponding period, according to the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization.

Following MSC, Khuzestan Steel Company sold 158.4 trillion rials ($905.14 million) worth of products, indicating a 40% rise year-on-year.

With a total of more than 1.83 million tons of exports last year, KSC was Iran's biggest exporter.

The mill experienced year-on-year declines of 16% in exports during the year.

KSC was the second producer of semi-finished steel products in Iran last year with 3.68 million tons (down 3% YOY)

With 108.6 trillion rials ($620.57 million) worth of sales, Esfahan Steel Company came third to register a 51% rise YOY. 

In terms of finished steel production, ESCO with 2.3 million tons (up 6% YOY) was the second biggest producer after MSC.

The mill produced 2.41 million tons of semis during the year under review (up 7% YOY).

ESCO ranked third in exports last year, as it shipped 1.15 million tons, up 28% compared to the year before.

Hormozgan Steel Company sold 61.1 trillion rials ($349.14 million) worth of steel last year, up by 64% YOY. The mill exported 815,411 tons of slabs last year, up 40% YOY.

Sales by South Kaveh Steel Company hit 53.04 trillion rials ($303.08 million) to register a 57% YOY rise.

The mill produced 1.15 million tons of semis last year (up 14% YOY). It exported 662,680 tons of billets during the same period, up 25% YOY.

Kavir Steel Company’s sales amounted to 42.49 trillion rials ($242.8 million), up by 79% YOY.

Khorasan Steel Company sold 44.46 trillion rials ($254.05 million), up 49% YOY.

The mill produced 612,522 tons of finished steel last year (up 8% YOY) as well as 1.16 million tons of semis (up 12% YOY).

It exported 222,264 tons of bloom during the same period, indicating a 72% growth YOY. In addition, the company exported 12,799 tons of rebar, down 7% YOY.

Arfa Steel Company’s sales grew by 30% YOY to 34.1 trillion rials ($194.85 million). The mill produced 865,307 tons of semis last year (up 1% YOY).

Iran Alloy Steel Company’s sales reached 28.01 trillion rials ($160.05 million), to witness a 53% rise YOY. 

The mill produced 491,283 tons of semis last year (up 18% YOY) and exported 59,949 tons of rebar, up 52% YOY. 

Sales by Kashan Amir Kabir Steel Company witnessed a 37% growth YOY to 12.08 trillion rials ($69.02 million).

 

 

Production Rises 8.3% to 47.4m Tons

Iranian steelmakers produced more than 47.42 million tons of semi-finished and finished steel products in the last Iranian year to register an 8.37% increase compared to the year before.

According to the Iranian Steel Producers Association, semi-finished steel made up 27.24 million tons of the total output, up 10% year-on-year.

Billet and bloom made up 16.78 million tons of semi-finished production, indicating an 18% rise YOY while slab output hit 10.45 million tons, posting no significant change YOY.

As for finished steel, the output increased 6% YOY to 20.18 million tons.

Long steel products had the lion's share of finished steel production with 10.22 million tons, up 6% YOY. Rebar had a major share here with 8.3 million tons (up 6% YOY), followed by beams with 1.12 million tons (up 8% YOY) and L-beam, T-beam and other types with 799,000 tons (up 4% YOY).

Flat steel products had a 9.96 million-ton share in the output of finished steel products, posting a 5% rise YOY. HRC made up 8.23 million tons of production in this category, registering a 4% growth YOY, followed by CRC with 2.62 million tons (up 4% YOY), and coated coil with 1.63 million tons (up 12% YOY).

Direct-reduced iron production stood at 27.9 million tons during the 12-month period, indicating an 6% rise YOY.

 

 

Exports Rise 22% to 10.3m Tons 

More than 10.36 million tons of finished and semi-finished steel products were exported during the same year.

Semi-finished steel made up 6.9 million tons or more than 66.66% of the total export volume, up 26% YOY.

Billet and bloom had the lion’s share of semis exports with an aggregate of 4.83 million tons to mark a 24% YOY rise. Slab followed with 2.07 million tons, up 31% YOY.

Exports of finished steel products increased 16% YOY to reach 3.45 million tons.

Long steel products had the biggest share of finished products’ exports with a total of 2.65 million tons (76.7%) to register a 26% growth YOY.

Rebar was the main exported product in this category with 2.23 million tons, registering a 35% increase YOY, followed by L-beam, T-beam and other types with 223,000 tons (up 5% YOY) and beams with 194,000 (down 20% YOY).

Flat steel products had a share of 805,000 tons in exports of finished steel products, down 8% YOY.

Hot-rolled coil grabbed the lion’s share in this category with 536,000 tons to register a decrease of 19% YOY.

Next was coated coil with 149,000 tons, down 13% YOY, and cold-rolled coil with 120,000 tons, up by 179% YOY.

Exports of direct-reduced iron increased 77% YOY to 942,000 tons.
