BIPC Wastewater Plant Halfway Through

EghtesadOnline: Construction of a new wastewater treatment plant in Bandar Imam Petrochemical Company in southwestern Khuzestan Province is underway as the company has put environmental protection high on its agenda.

According to the BIPC public relations office, the plant, which is the largest sewage treatment center in the domestic petrochemical industry, has registered 56% progress, the National Petrochemical Company news website Nipna reported.

Bandar Imam Petrochemical Company is a leader in the field of environmental protection and has taken effective measures in this regard.

Environmental policy is aimed at balancing environmental protection and conservation of natural resources with other goals like producing affordable energy, boosting economic growth and creating jobs.

The new wastewater plant will have a daily capacity to treat 40,000 cubic meters of industrial effluent, which is about 80% of the wastewater produced by the sprawling complex.

BIPC has five affiliates namely, Ab Niroo, Basparan, Faravaresh, Kharazmi and Kimia. Each company has its own wastewater treatment plant.

Since the quality of wastewater produced by the subsidiaries differs, there are 21 pre-treatment or full treatment systems installed in different units with total treatment capacity of 40,000 cubic meters a day. When the new project is complete all the treatment operations will be concentrated in one place.

Industrial wastewater treatment covers the mechanisms and processes used to treat wastewater produced as a by-product of industrial or commercial activities. After treatment, the treated industrial wastewater can be reused, or released to sewer or to surface waters in the environment.

BIPC is the only one of its kind with an industrial waste landfill that is also used by other industries. The center has three waste burial sites for high-hazard, hazardous and semi-hazardous solid waste.
