With Over 144K Tons, KSC Ranks First in Steel Exports

EghtesadOnline: With a total of 144,663 tons of exports during the first two months of the current fiscal year (March 20-May 20), Khouzestan Steel Company was Iran's biggest exporter.

The mill experienced a year-on-year decline of 64% in exports during the period under review, latest data released by the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization show.

Esfahan Steel Company (ESCO) was the second biggest exporter, as it shipped out 100,804 tons of products, down 34% compared with last year's corresponding period.

Mobarakeh Steel Company ranked third, as it exported 15,632 tons in two months, down 91% compared with last year's corresponding period.

South Kaveh Steel Company exported 70,000 tons of billets, down 33% YOY. The company also exported 10,000 tons of direct-reduced iron in the two months, down 27% YOY.

Hormozgan Steel Company exported 31,566 tons of slabs, down 80% YOY.

Bonab Steel Company exported 4,550 tons of rebar during the two months, up 349% YOY.

Chadormalu Mining and Industrial Complex exported 27,429 tons of billets in the two months.

The above steelmakers, considered major producers in Iran, exported 404,644 tons of products during the two months under review to register a 61% YOY decline.

Their exports amounted to 183,052 tons during the month to May 20 to register a year-on-year decline of 70%.

These heavyweight steelmakers exported 7.03 million tons of steel during the Iranian fiscal year that ended on March 19 to register a year-on-year growth of 27%.

With a total of more than 1.83 million tons of exports last year, Khouzestan Steel Company was also Iran's biggest steel exporter.

According to World Steel Association's latest data, Iran is currently the 10th biggest producer of steel in the world, as it produced about 8.49 million tons of crude steel during January-April, up 4.3% compared with the corresponding period of 2019.

Iran is aggressively pursuing the target of becoming the world’s sixth largest steel producer as per the 20-Year Vision Plan, which targets annual production capacity expansion to 55 million tons and 20-25 million tons of exports per year by 2025. 

Iranian steel mills have so far realized more than 35 million tons of the capacity target.
