About $15 million worth of flowers and ornamental plants were imported last year, he added.
More than 7,800 hectares are under the cultivation of flowers and ornamental plants in Iran, the official was quoted as saying by IRNA.
According to Taqavi, more than 150,000 people are directly or indirectly involved in the Iranian flower industry.
