EghtesadOnline: A total of 131,315 tons of commodities worth about $5.4 million were exported from Mazandaran Province’s Amirabad Port during the first three months of the current Iranian year (March 20-June 20).

The main exported goods were animal fat and oil, oilseeds and wooden and cast iron artifacts.

Russia, the UAE, Turkey, Kazakhstan and the UK were the main destinations, ILNA reported.

More than 524,000 tons of goods worth $176.47 million were imported through this northern port during the same period.

Wood and wooden artifacts, mineral fuels and glass products were the main imported items.

Amirabad Port’s revenues stood at 699.51 billion rials ($3.5 million) over the three-month period under review.

A total of 185,000 tons of goods were exported from the ports of northern Mazandaran Province in Q1.

According to Mohammad Bakeri, the head of Mazandaran Road Maintenance and Transportation General Office's International Transportation and Transit Bureau, the exports mainly included cement and dairy products, the news portal of the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development reported.

More than 750,000 tons, mainly including corn and barley, were imported from the ports under review during the same period.

The local official added that 442,000 tons of goods were transited though the province during the period.

Mazandaran has three ports, namely Amirabad, Noshahr and Fereydounkenar, with the first being the most active in the region. In fact, Amirabad is the largest port facility on the Caspian shore and the third largest in Iran.

A total of 3.6 million tons of goods were loaded and unloaded in Amirabad during the last Iranian year that ended on March 19.

Amirabad Port’s revenues increased by 9% last year to reach 2.88 trillion rials ($14.4 million), according to Amir Jamshidi, director general of the port.

A contract was signed recently for the construction of a silo with a capacity to store 30,000 tons of grains in Amirabad Port.

According to Director of Amirabad Special Economic Zone Mohammad Ali Saeedi, it is in the form of a BOT (build, operation and transfer) contract.

The project is expected to be completed within two years.

“Presently, Amirabad has the capacity to store 235,000 tons of grains. More silos with a collective capacity to store another 235,000 tons are under construction,” the official was quoted as saying by IRNA.

The new silo will be built on 7,000 square meters of land and create 12 direct jobs for local people.
