This comes as, according to data released by the Statistical Center of Iran, Qom and Mazandaran posted the lowest month-on-month inflation of 2.3% last month.
The overall CPI, using the Iranian year to March 2017 as the base year, stood at 235.9 in the same month, indicating a 3.5% rise compared with the previous month.
Hormozgan Province’s goods and services consumer inflation registered a rise of 34.8% during the month ending Aug. 21 compared with the similar month of the year before, the highest among all provinces.
The year-on-year CPI growth was the lowest for West Azarbaijan with 24.8%, compared with that of other Iranian provinces. The overall goods and services CPI in Iran registered a year-on-year increase of 30.4% in the same month.
The average goods and services CPI in Iran for the 12-month period ending Aug. 21 increased by 25.8% compared with last year’s corresponding period. Hormozgan saw the highest average annual inflation with 31.1% while West Azarbaijan posted the lowest of 21.6%.
Notably, the highest monthly growth in the index among 12 groups of the basket of consumer goods and services purchased by households in the month under review was recorded for “furniture, home appliances and their maintenance” with 5.9% and the lowest monthly growth for “health and treatment” and “communications” groups with 1.7%
The highest and lowest year-on-year inflation in the month under review was posted for transportation (65.1%) and communications (12.5%), and the highest and lowest annual inflation was registered for transportation (47.2%) and communications (6.4%).
Urban Households
The overall CPI calculated for urban areas stood at 234.7 during the fifth month of the current Iranian year, indicating a 3.5% rise compared with the previous month.
The growth in CPI measured for provincial urban households compared with the previous month was the highest (5.6%) for Lorestan while Qom recorded the lowest monthly inflation growth of 2.2% compared with other provinces.
The index registered an average year-on-year increase of 30.6% for urban areas. Goods and services CPI of Hormozgan’s urban areas registered a year-on-year rise of 35.2% during the month under review, the highest among all provinces. The CPI increase in urban areas was the lowest for West Azarbaijan with 24.2% YOY.
The average CPI in urban areas increased by 25.9% compared with last year’s corresponding period. Households living in urban areas of Hormozgan saw the highest annual inflation (30.8%) while those of West Azarbaijan witnessed the lowest annual inflation (22.1%) among all Iranian provinces.
Rural Households
The overall CPI calculated for rural areas stood at 242.5 in the month under review, which indicates a 3.2% increase compared with the previous month.
The growth in CPI of rural households compared with the previous month was highest for Yazd with 5.4%. This is while rural households living in Zanjan saw a 1.7% increase in the prices of goods and services compared with the month before, the lowest rate compared with other provinces.
The index registered an average year-on-year increase of 29.6% for rural areas in the same month.
CPI of Hamedan’s rural areas registered a YOY increase of 37.9% during the fifth month of the Iranian year, the highest among all provinces, whereas the year-on-year CPI increase was the lowest for Ilam with 22.4% compared with other provincial rural areas.
The goods and services CPI of rural areas in the period under review increased by 25.4% compared with last year’s corresponding period. Hormozgan registered the highest 12-month inflation in rural areas (31.7%) while West Azarbaijan posted the lowest annual inflation (20.3%).
Tehran's Monthly Inflation Declines
The monthly consumer inflation of Tehran Province, wherein lies the capital city, stood at 3.2% in the same month under review, indicating a 4.9% decrease compared with the previous month, Masoud Shafiei, the head of Plan and Budget Organization of Tehran Province, said.
The Consumer Price Index for “food, beverages and tobacco” group increased by 4.3% and that of “non-food and services” group grew by 2.9% month-on-month.
The overall month-on-month CPI for urban and rural areas of Tehran Province increased by 3.2% (down 5% compared with the previous month’s announcement) and 1.9% (down 5.8% compared with the previous month’s announcement) respectively.
Tehran’s consumer inflation for the month under review (July 22-Aug. 21) registered a year-on-year increase of 34.5% compared with the similar month of the previous Iranian year. The year-on-year inflation of the previous month posted an increase of 2.8% compared with that of the preceding month (June 21-July 21).
During the month under review, the year-on-year CPI of “food, beverages and tobacco” and “non-food and services” groups increased by 24.2% and 37.7% respectively.
CPI registered a year-on-year increase of 34.6% for Tehran’s urban areas and 31.5% for rural areas in the month ending Aug. 21, the official was quoted as saying by IRNA.
Tehran Province’s average goods and services CPI in the 12-month period ending Aug. 21 increased by 28.6% compared with the corresponding period of last year, Shafiei said.
The average annual inflation rate of Tehran Province decreased by 0.2% in the fifth Iranian month compared with the fourth fiscal month.
Shafiei put Tehran’s urban and rural average annual inflation for the month under review at 28.6% and 29%, respectively.
