H1 Upstream Steel Output Reviewed

EghtesadOnline: The upstream steel industry registered growth in the production of iron ore concentrate, pellet and direct reduced iron during the first half of the current fiscal year (March 20-Sept. 22), latest data released by the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization showed.

he IMIDRO report takes into account the output of major producers, hence the overall production should be higher than the figures quoted in the following text.

 

 

Iron Ore Concentrate

A total of 24.6 million tons of iron ore concentrate were produced in H1, marking a 4% increase compared with the same period of last year. 

According to IMIDRO, Golgohar Mining and Industrial Complex had the highest share of H1 output, by producing 8.11 million tons. 

This is while a year-on-year comparison of the company’s output indicates a 1% decrease. 

Chadormalu Mining and Industrial Complex came next with 5.54 million tons (up 8% YOY), followed by Middle East Mines and Mining Industries Development Holding Company with 3.37 million tons (down 32% YOY) and Goharzamin Iron Ore Company with 2.209 million tons (up 2% YoY) of output in H1.

Other major producers included Iran Central Iron Ore Company with 2.06 million tons (down 17% YOY), National Development Company with 1.26 million tons (up 21% YOY) and Opal Parsian Sangan with 1.131 million tons (down 23% YOY).

Sabanour Mining and Industrial Development Company recorded the highest increase in iron ore concentrate production during the first half of the fiscal year. The company’s output increased by 54% in H1 to reach 710,106 tons. 

Iron ore concentrate output during the sixth Iranian month (Aug 22-Sept. 21) amounted to 4.248 million tons to register a 6% growth compared with last year’s same month. 

Golgohar Mining and Industrial Complex was the leading producer during the month, solely accounting for 1.42 million tons of the monthly output. The National Development Company also registered the highest increase of 40% during the period.

 

 

Pellet

Pellet output of major steel mills amounted to 22.83 million tons in H1, posting a growth of 8% compared with the same period of the previous year.

Golgohar was again the largest producer with 6.31 million tons (up 4% YOY), followed by Mobarakeh Steel Company with 3.8 million tons (up 5% YOY), MIDHCO with 3.335 million (up 18% YOY), Khouzestan Steel Company with 2.93 million tons (down 8% YOY) and Chadormalu with 1.87 million tons (up 7% YOY).

Major pellet producers included Opal Parsian Sangan with 1.6 million tons (down 7% YOY), Sangan Mineral and Industrial Company with 1.3 million tons (up 50% YOY), Khorasan Steel Company with 831,812 tons (up 31% YOY). 

Sangan Mineral and Industrial Company registered the largest growth in pellet output during the first half of the current fiscal year with 50%, compared with the same period of last year. 

Pellet production witnessed a 23% year-on-year increase during the sixth month to 4.12 million tons, IMIDRO’s data show. 

MIDHCO registered the highest jump of 42% in output during the month. 

 

 

Direct-Reduced Iron 

Production of direct-reduced iron stood at 15.568 million tons during the six-month period, up 8% YOY. Mobarakeh accounted for the largest share of the output with 3.89 million tons (up 8% YOY), followed by KSC with 2.22 million tons (up 12% YOY), Golgohar 1.4 million tons, Hormozgan Steel Company with 846,692 tons (up 3% YOY), Chadormalu Steel Company with 832,355 tons (up 10% YOY), South Kaveh Steel Company with 828,561 tons (up 9% YOY) and Saba Steel Complex with 681,705 tons (up 16% YOY).

As per the figures, Baft Steel Company recorded the highest growth in DRI output in H1, with a 104% increase compared with the same period of last year. 

DRI production reached 2.681 million tons during the month ending Sept. 22, indicating a 12% growth YOY. Mobarakeh Steel Company produced 697,061 tons of DRI to lead the market during the sixth month of the fiscal year. 

Neyriz Steel Company also registered the highest growth in DRI output at 65%, compared with the same period of last year.
