According to Director General of Yazd Customs Administration Mohammad Hossein Salmani, Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, Pakistan, the UAE, Azerbaijan, Oman, Armenia and Belgium were the main export destinations, IRNA reported.
Mohammad Reza Alamdari, the head of Yazd Industries, Mining and Trade Organization, said tiles and ceramics, steel products, wires and cables, pipes and profiles, plastic bags, shelled and unshelled pistachio, glass dishes, molybdenum oxide and ferromolybdenum, construction glass and floorings were the main products exported from Yazd.
Salmani noted that over the same period, 22,532 tons of goods worth more than $67.2 million were imported into the province.
Industrial raw materials and auto spare parts were the main products imported from Turkey, China, Italy, the UAE, Spain and the Netherlands.
According to Salmani, the central province has earned $1.16 million in customs revenues since March 20.
A total of 400,000 tons of agricultural products cultivated in greenhouses were exported from Yazd during the last Iranian year (March 2019-20, which accounted for 70% of all the greenhouse production in the central Iranian province.
“Our main export destinations were Russia, Iraq and the littoral countries of Persian Gulf,” the head of Yazd Agricultural Jihad Organization, Jamal Sajjadipour, was quoted as saying by IRNA.
According to Akbar Sheikh-Alishahim, the head of Horticultural Affairs Bureau of the same organization, local greenhouse agricultural production in Yazd currently stands at 542,000 tons.
The official noted that Yazd has a 22% share of Iran's greenhouse product cultivation.
“Greenhouse area in Yazd is currently at 1,900 hectares, registering a 63.8% increase compared with 2013-14. We plan to increase the figure to 2,000 hectares by the [fiscal] yearend [March 20, 2021],” he said, adding that greenhouses in Yazd have created 6,000 jobs.
The city of Yazd, the capital of the namesake province, has a hot desert climate. It is the driest major city in Iran, with a yearly precipitation of 49 millimeters spread over 23 days, with summer temperatures frequenting above 40°C with no humidity.
