Mapna Among Top 10 EPC Contractors in MENA Region

EghtesadOnline: Iran's industrial giant Mapna Group has been chosen by MEED Company as among the top 10 engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractors, in the oil, gas, and petrochemical industry in the Middle East and North Africa this year.

MEED, abbreviated from the former name Middle East Economic Digest, is a company that provides analysis and commentary on Middle Eastern and North African markets, companies, people and data on the regional projects market.

Founded in 1957 in Dubai, MEED has a website and publishes a weekly magazine featuring news, analysis and commentary, features and interviews and a special report.

In MEED’s last report, Mapna is ranked 7th among the top 10 EPC contractors in the MENA region, the Oil Ministry news agency Shana reported.

According to MEED’s assessment, Mapna has done well in Iran’s domestic oil industry and signed an $876 million contract for the development of Parsi and Paranj oil fields with the National Iranian South Oil Company.

The ten-year contract aims to increase daily production at Parsi and Paranj to 85,000 barrels from the current 52,000 barrels per day.

Based on the contract, Mapna will carry out a range of subsurface operations include drilling 29 new wells, repairing 8 wells, artificial lift (use of artificial means to increase the flow of liquids, such as crude oil or water, from a production well), installing submersible pumps for 45 wells and fracturing and installation of tubing.

Surface operations include optimizing and expanding utilities, construction of gas collection and compression stations, construction of desalination units, installation of oil & gas pipelines and gas injection.

Parsi oil field is located 125 kilometers north of Ahvaz, capital of oil-rich Khuzestan Province in the southwest. Paranj is located between Parsi and Karanj oil fields 40 km northwest of the city of Behbahan in the same region.

Parsi, Paranj and Karanj are onshore oilfields under the authority of the National Iranian South Oil Company, a subsidiary of the National Iranian Oil Company.

Mapna is a group of companies involved in a range of projects including oil and gas field development, onshore and offshore drilling services, construction of downstream processing units, auxiliary facilities, utility and storage tanks, as well as the design and manufacture of equipment such as turbo-compressors for pipelines, refineries and processing units.

It also is involved in the expansion of thermal and renewable power plants, railroads and other key industries.

The tech giant has played a key role in upgrading the power sector and has projects in Iraq, Syria, Pakistan, Oman and Indonesia.

Japan’s JGC Corporation, South Korea’s Samsung Engineering, Spain’s Técnicas Reunidas, and China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (Sinopec) are ranked first to fourth on the MEED list.

Egypt’s Petrojet and Enppi companies are fifth and sixth. Egyptian Petrochemical Company, France’s Technip, and Greece’s Archirodon Group are below Iran’s Mapna with eighth to tenth positions.
