Tissue Production Twice as Much as Domestic Demand

EghtesadOnline: Iran’s tissue production capacity is twice as much as the country’s demand and the surplus production is being exported, says the head of Tissue Producers Association, Abbas Khoshgard.

Per capita consumption of tissue paper (napkins, paper towels, toilet paper, etc.) is two kilograms per Iranian, indicating that the country annually needs 150,000 tons.

Domestic production stands at 280,000 tons, he added.

“Fifteen factories account for this level of tissue production and the excess must be sold to international buyers such as those in neighboring countries, including Iraq, Afghanistan and Central Asian states,” he was quoted as saying by IRNA.

“Up until 10 years ago, Iran would import up to 80% of its needed tissue but over the past decade, the country has turned from an importer to an exporter of tissue products.”

Tissue paper is a lightweight paper or, light crepe paper that are used in producing a wide variety of cellulose and health products.
