Exports From Markazi Province Exceed $510 Million

EghtesadOnline: A total of 1.09 million tons of commodities worth $518 million were exported from the central Markazi Province’s customs terminals to 88 countries during the first eight months of the current Iranian year (March 20-Nov. 20), showing a 12% and 25% decline in weight and value respectively compared with the similar period of last year.

“The main exported products were different types of hydrocarbons, heavy polyethylene, home and kitchen appliances, bituminous waterproofing, food and beverages, plastic and glass products, disposables, aluminum tins, tissues, steel products and aluminum ingots shipped to Iraq, Afghanistan, Turkey, Pakistan, Uzbekistan and the UAE,” director general of Markazi Customs Administration, Esmaeil Hosseini, was quoted as saying by ISNA.

The official noted that over the same eight-month period, more than 94,000 tons of goods worth $240 million were imported from 44 countries via the province’s customs offices, registering a 21% and 24% decline in volume and value respectively year-on-year.

“The imports mainly included diaper production’s raw material, aluminum and steel coils, industrial machinery and spare parts, steel wires, edible essences and food production raw material and fruit juice packaging material purchased from Germany, China, Turkey, the UAE, India and Iraq,” he added.

Hosseini said Markazi’s customs and value-added tax revenues over the eight months declined by 32% and 22% respectively YOY, without mentioning the exact figures.

“During the same period, 400 contraband cases were filed against smugglers of goods, most of which were for textile, electric home appliances, auto and mobile phone spare parts, motorcycles, diesel electric generators, apparel, tires, cosmetics, welding machines, walnuts and almonds, flash memories and external hard drives,” he said.
