17 Water, Power Projects Inaugurated in 3 Regions

EghtesadOnline: Seventeen power and water projects worth $23 million were inaugurated in three provinces on Tuesday. One is in Tehran, eight in the northeastern Golestan Province and eight in Ilam in the west, the Energy Ministry news portal Paven reported.

The Tehran Province project will augment potable water supply to 43 rural areas where 60,000 people live. Almost 93% of the rural population around Tehran has access to safe drinking water.

Three water supply projects were inaugurated in Golestan and Ilam provinces covering over 400,000 people in urban and rural areas.

A 25 megawatt small-scale power plant and a 2.5 MW station with distributed generation system were also launched in the two regions to help stabilize supply.

Distributed generation refers to electricity produced in small quantities near the point of use, as alternative or supplement to traditional centralized grid-connected power. It reduces the cost and complexity associated with transmission and distribution while offsetting peak electricity demand and stabilizing the local grid.

Other power projects in the two provinces include expansion of the electricity network to help reduce blackouts and increase grid capacity and stability.
