Twitter posts show thick plumes of black smoke billowing over the structure and locals wrote on the social media that the smoke could be seen blocks away from the location, RT reported.
There are no reports on the cause of the fire so far, however the damage on the building was apparently significant as parts of the structure can be seen falling onto a nearby road.
Firefighters have arrived at the site and are currently trying to extinguish the flames. Some posts from locals suggest the building is abandoned.
Authorities say they have been able to put out most of the fire from the outside, but now have to comb the hotel from the inside to make sure all of the flames have been extinguished and to find the source of the blaze, local news outlet Al-Madina reported.
