EghtesadOnline: Parliamentary elections in Pakistan Kashmir was held on Thursday while violence is still continuing on the Indian side of the region.

A total of 2.674 million Kashmiris exercised their right to elect members for the Pakistani Kashmir Legislative Assembly, which will be the ninth since the parliamentary form of government was introduced in 1975.
While the region is spread over 14,245 square kilometres, the polling process is not restricted to this area, reports IRNA. Instead, it stretches to entire Pakistan because members for 12 out of the 41 directly elected seats are elected by 438,884 voters living in various parts of the country.
Twenty-six political parties and 423 candidates have contested elections but the actual contest was between Pakistan Peoples Party, Pakistan Muslim League-N and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf.
Special security arrangements were made on the occasion by deploying thirty six thousand personnel of Army, Rangers, Frontier Constabulary and Police to maintain law and order.
Previously Pakistan Peoples Party was running the government of Pakistani Kashmir.
