President Putin orders release of two Iranians in Russian jails

EghtesadOnline: On the verge of a meeting between President Hassan Rouhani and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, Russian president ordered release of two Iranians who were in prison in Russia for three years.

In a direct order on Sunday, the Russian President ordered the two Iranian citizens to be released from jail, reports IRNA.

Writing on his Instagram page, the Iranian Ambassador in Moscow Mehdi Sanaei said the two released persons were arrested in Russia about three years ago and were sentenced to 12 and 14 years in prison.

He said the release of the Iranian inmates took place on the threshold of a meeting between Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani and his Russian counterpart President Putin which is slated for Monday in Baku, Azerbaijan.

He said the Iranian embassy in Russia followed the case for the past two years.
