US State Department congratulates Iran weightlifter's gold medal

EghtesadOnline: US Department of State on Saturday congratulated Iranian weightlifter Kianoush Rostami for winning gold medal in the men's 85-kg category in 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

The Persian section of the US Department of State uploading Rostami's photo on its facebook page expressed felicitation for victory of the 25-year-old Rostami wishing him further success. 

Iran's squad at Olympics snatched its first medal on Friday when Rostami won his first gold medal in the men's 85-kilogram category with a world record after lifting a total of 396 kilograms.

Rostami's gold has boosted Iran's standing in the 34th ranking in the Rio 2016 Olympics Games medal table, reports IRNA. 

His medal is Iran’s sixth weightlifting gold in Olympics.

The Iranian weightlifter stood second in the London 2012 Olympic Games and has so far, succeeded to grab two gold medals of the world championships.

Iran's squad consists of 64 athletes in 14 fields namely boxing, ping pong, shooting, archery, sailing, lifting, track and field, taekwondo, judo, fencing, volleyball, wrestling, swimming and cycling.

The Rio 2016 Olympic Games is underway with 10,500 athletes from 205 countries who are to compete in 44 articles of 28 sports fields.
