EghtesadOnline: Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani said on Sunday that Iraqi Kurdistan Administration must ensure border security with the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Shamkhani made the remarks in a meeting in Tehran with Iraqi Kurdistan Region's Interior Minister Karim Sinjari, reports IRNA.

Shamkhani said that the traditional counter-revolutionary elements have been involved in cross-border sabotage operations along the Iranian border with Iraqi Kurdistan Region and that they enjoy intelligence support from the regional and trans-regional intelligence agencies.

Shamkhani made clear that Iranian support for Iraqi Kurdistan Administration has been in the context of friendship with the Iraqi central government and has never stopped during tough times.

Noting that sustainable security in Iraq is possible only with boosting national unity and solidarity, Shamkhani urged the Kurdish administration to exercise unity with Iraqi central government.

The Iraqi official, for his part, appreciated Iran's support for Iraqi Kurdistan Region in different areas, saying Iran has always been a reliable friend for Kurdistan Administration.

Sinjari said that Iraqi Kurdistan Administration attaches special significance to security at the joint border with Iran.

Sinjari said that they will not allow any group to carry cross-border sabotage.

He said that Iraqi Kurdistan Administration would honor commitment to safeguard security at the joint borders with Iran.
