Supreme Leader appreciates endevors of Iranian athletes in Olympics

EghtesadOnline: Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei on Tuesday appreciated endeavors of Iranian athletes in Olympics 2016 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

In a message, Supreme Leader congratulated the medal winners, all athletes and their coaches for their hard works in the Olympic Games. 

Supreme Leader said the impressive victory of Iranian athletes brought joy for the Iranian people, according to IRNA.

Ayatollah Khamenei acknowledged the fact that medals of some of Iranian athletes were refused because of misjudgement, saying 'the misjudgements could not lessen the value of efforts our athletes made in the course of the contests'. 

Meanwhile, the Supreme Leader commended the Iranian women athletes for observing their Muslim dress code. 

Iranian athletes brought home a total of 8 medals (three gold, one silver and four bronze). 

Iran stood at the 25th slot of the medal count table at the end of the international multi-sport event.

Iran had left the 2012 Summer Olympics in London with a total of 12 medals (4 gold, 6 silver, and 2 bronze), finishing seventeenth in the overall medal standings.
