Iran envoy: Banking ties paving way for upsurge in economic relations

EghtesadOnline: Iran's Ambassador to the Hague Alireza Jahangiri in a recent meeting with Governor of Central Bank of the Netherlands Klaas Knot said that banking connections can serve as prelude to economic breakthroughs between the two nations.

Jahangiri then referred to reciprocal visits by the foreign ministers of the two countries as well as visits by other senior officials from Iran and the Netherlands, and said that with regard to the will of both nations to help promote mutual ties in all areas, so far significant steps have been taken by both sides, according to IRNA. 

The Iranian ambassador also said that there is great interest among the businessmen both in Iran and the Netherlands for launching joint ventures.

But some banking problems have delayed exploitation of all the economic and business potentials available in the two countries, Jahangiri said.

The two sides during their visit, agreed to discuss new initiatives to address the issue of monetary and bank to bank transfers between the two countries.

It was also agreed that banking officials of Iran and the Netherlands meet with each other on the sidelines of the upcoming International Monetary Fund (IMF) meeting.
