EghtesadOnline: Iranian Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Ali Jannati said there are cultural commonalities between Tehran and Bangkok that can be used as proper grounds for further cultural cooperation.

Jannati made the remarks in a meeting held here on Tuesday afternoon with his Thai counterpart Vira Rojpojchanarat.

Meanwhile, the Thai minister described Iran as an ancient country with rich culture and civilization, hoping that the two capitals can promote cooperation in the fields of culture and tourism, according to IRNA.

Jannati arrived in China September 19 to attend the first Silk Road International Cultural Expo that started in the city of Dunhuang, northwest of China, on Tuesday.

Many cultural experts see the two-day event as a professional gathering in the area of culture.

The cultural expo is underway with the participation of senior cultural officials, ministers of culture and cultural experts from different Silk Road countries.

The Silk Road or Silk Route is an ancient network of trade routes that were central to cultural interaction through regions of Asia connecting the West and East.

The road is to be revived based on an initiative made by the Chinese President Xi Jinping known as the One Belt and One Road plan.
