EghtesadOnline: Visiting Iranian President Hassan Rouhani called for expansion of bilateral cooperation, economic ties in particular, between Iran and Cuba.

President Rouhani made the remarks Monday afternoon local time (early Tuesday morning in Tehran) in a high level meeting in Havana between Iranian and Cuban officials also attended by his Cuban counterpart Raul Castro, reports IRNA.

President Rouhani expressed hope that the two capitals could seize the opportunities to develop bilateral cooperation during Iran's post-sanction era.

He touched upon the success of negotiations between Iran and P5+1 group in July 2015 which resulted in making the landmark nuclear deal between the two sides better known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

President Rouhani noted that certain world powers were seeking to maintain their monopoly on major modern technologies by imposing sanctions and mounting pressure on independent states.

He also called for expansion of Tehran-Havana cooperation in the field of the state-of-art technologies including nanotechnology and biotechnology.

President Rouhani also underscored that activating Iran-Cuba Economic Commission would play a pivotal role in fostering economic relations and following up agreements signed between the two countries.

Describing Cuba as Iran's close friend, President Rouhani added that friendship and alliance of Tehran-Havana would benefit both nations and should be expanded to their cooperation in dealing with regional and international issues.

Touching upon Tehran-Havana common stance in major regional and international developments, President Rouhani noted that certain global powers are trying to fan the flames of regional dispute to sell their weaponry which would in turn damage the global economy.

Meanwhile, President Castro expressed satisfaction over the Iranian president's visit to Cuba noting that Havana is proud to be Iran's steadfast partner.

He stressed that no one can stop the promotion of bilateral relations between the two capitals.

The Cuban president also underscored that waging war and creating chaos are a profitable business for certain global powers.
