Jannati: Silk Road Expo highlights Iran’s pivotal role in reviving

EghtesadOnline: Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Ali Jannati said the 1st International Silk Road Expo in China was a proper occasion for all countries situated alongside the ancient route to discover Iran’s pivotal role in reviving it.

Talking to IRNA here on Thursday local time before leaving the city for Tehran, he said the event further provided a chance for all participating countries to get more familiar with the past and present of the Silk Road which is good thing because it would help its revival.

The minister also said that the international gathering was an opportunity for promoting cultural and media cooperation in addition to economic areas.

He said the gathering further served to bring further closer all the countries alongside the ancient route.

Jannati described as significant role of Silk Road countries’ media in confronting the Western media’s destructive propaganda warfare.

He went on to note that he had proposed establishment of a joint new agency exclusive to the Silk Road topics to his Chinese counterpart which was welcomed by him.

95 delegations from 85 countries, five international organizations and 66 foreign companies participated in the event.

Jannati arrived in China on Monday to attend the first Silk Road International Cultural Expo at the invitation of his Chinese counterpart.

Many cultural experts regarded the event that started on September 20 as a professional gathering in the area of culture.

The two-day cultural expo was held in the city of Dunhuang, located in northwest of China, with participation of senior cultural officials, ministers of culture and cultural experts from different Silk Road littoral countries.

The Silk Road or Silk Route is an ancient network of trade routes that were central to cultural interaction through regions of Asia connecting the West and East.

During his stay in the city, he met and conferred with a number of his counterparts.

Addressing the event, he stressed that the international community should tackle extremism and radicalism to restore peace and tranquility.

Jannati left here for Tehran Thursday evening local time.
