“If Iran and Iraq stay by each other’s side, they will say the first thing in the region,” Ayatollah Rafsanjani said during the meeting.
He said that planning the 8-year war and compliance of a dictator like Saddam Hussein with those plots was in line with the objectives of the colonial powers to weaken the two countries, reports IRNA.
The Iraqi ambassador, for his part, pointed to the track record of cooperation between Iran and Iraq, and said, “When I was being sent on this mission, the Iraqi officials told me that you are going to a country that is the most important one for Iraq.”
