Mashad to host Int'l Silk Road Conference

EghtesadOnline: University of Fredowsi is to host the International Silk Road Conference and Regional Meeting of the International Institute for Central Asian Studies (IICAS) from October 15-16.

Secretary of the event told reporters on Sunday that the congress is a prelude to Mashad cultural event in 2017 to be held in cooperation with IICAS, UNESCO, Municipal Council, Municipality and the University of Ferdowsi.

Mohammd Taqi Imanpour said that Uzbek city of Samarkand-based IICAS, is focusing on Central Asia, Caucasus, Iran and Turkey and has ten members including Iran, reports IRNA.

Given the significance of Khorasan Razavi, a major center on the road, and designation of the city as Islamic World Cultural Capital in 2017, it was decided to hold International Silk Road Conference concurrent with IICAS Regional Meeting, he said.

Representatives from IICAS member states and experts from neighboring countries including Russia, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, China, Oman, Turkey and Azerbaijan Republic are to attend the upcoming event, Imanpour said.

He further noted that some37 articles on reviving the silk road have been submitted to the secretariat of conference of which 21, 14 from foreign and seven form Iranian experts, will be presented during the event.

The International Institute for Central Asian Studies (IICAS) was established in August 1995 in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, as a direct outcome of the UNESCO Silk Roads Task.

The main objectives of IICAS are to focus on historical and cultural issues relating to the countries of Central Asia, bringing these to the attention of the international community and strengthening collaboration between local scholars and their colleagues abroad through a multidisciplinary study of the region.
