EghtesadOnline: British campaigner and journalist Andrew Murray and Chief-of-staff at the 'Unite the Union', has slammed British arms sales to the Saudi regime.

This needed to be stop for the peace to be established in the region, Murray told the Islamic Republic News Agency in the British capital.

Murray said that Western interventions in the region have had no achievements but total failure, reports IRNA.

'The achievements have been to destroy one state after another and now they are in a state of complete collapse' Murray said.

He said that the Western interventions have made the situation worse than what it was before.

'The situation is now measurably worse,' he said.

'Millions of lives have been lost, people have turned into refugees,' Murray said.

'These interventions have been uniformed, negative and disastrous,' he said.

Asked about his opinion on British government's arms sales to dictator governments in the region, he said that the British government has played a huge role in the Middle East for the last 100 years in terms of colonialism, military intervention and propping up dictatorships.

'British arms industries are heavily dependent on orders from Saudi Arabia and other Persian Gulf dictators,' he said.

'If Britain was serious in trying to bring peace to the Middle East, then stopping its arm sales is the first thing they should do, the chief-of-staff of Britain's biggest trade union added.

'More people are now becoming aware of the negative and reactionary role Saudi Arabia is playing in the Middle East,' Murray said.
