Iranian films nominee for 10th Asia Pacific Award

EghtesadOnline: Iranian movie “Breath” directed by Narges Abyar and documentary “Starless Dreams” directed by Mehrdad Oskouei have been nominated for 10th Asia Pacift Screen Award.

“Breath” by Naregs Abyar will compete with two fims from India, one from Afghanistan and one from South Korea and “Starless Dreams” byOskouei will also rival doucumentaries from Taiwan, Australia and Russia.

The Asia Pacific Screen Academy has announced the 10th anniversary edition of the APSA Awards will be held on Thursday 24 November 2016 in Brisbane, Australia, reports ISNA.

Breath narrates the story of an Iranian family who live in Yazd in 1978. Children of the family are living in their childish world, filled with their dreams and fantasies, which are about to become true. It won Fajr Film Festival's two trophies. In International Fajr Fiml Festival, Breath was awarded Crystal Simorgh for Best Actress in the same edition.

Starless Dreams is a 2016 Iranian documentary directed by Mehrdad Oskouei. The film follows a group of under 18-year-old girls taken into care for a variety of reasons ranging from drug dealing and trafficking, to pick-pocketing and manslaughter. We gradually get to know what brought them there.

Oskouei’ documentary has won several international awards so far including the main prize of films focusing on human rights at The Bergen International Film Festival (BIFF), 2016, September 20 to 28, Bergen, Norway and Best Full-length Documentary Award at the 26th International Message to Man Film Festival, 2016, September 23 to October 1, Saint Petersburg, Russia.
