Zarif: Iran ready to help ceasefire, send humanitarian supplies to Syria

EghtesadOnline: Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said on Monday that Iran is ready for any cooperation on establishment of ceasefire in Syria and sending humanitarian supplies to alleviate the humanitarian plight in Syria.

Zarif made the remarks in a meeting in Tehran with EU Humanitarian Aid Commissioner Christos Stylianides. 

The foreign minister expressed deep concern about deterioration of the humanitarian situation in Yemen, urging the international resolve to put an end to the humanitarian crisis in Yemen, according to IRNA. 

The two officials also discussed situation of Afghan refugees living in Iran and underlined the necessity of providing humanitarian supplies to crisis-hit countries, Syria in particular. 

The EU official, for his part, appreciated Iran's hosting of Afghan refugees and the country's role in sending humanitarian supplies to Syria. 

Noting that Iran has a key and positive role in the region and the entire world, Stylianides said that Iran deserves such a role in the international community in light of the bright record of the humanitarian assistance to Afghan refugees.
