Rise in Zarshouran’s Gold Extraction

EghtesdaOnline: More than 180,000 tons of gold ore were extracted from Zarshouran Gold Mine in the first half of the current Iranian year (started March 20), indicating a 64% jump compared to last year’s corresponding period, according to Mohammad Reza Ahmadi, managing director of the mine.

Zarshouran, located 35 kilometers from Takab in the northwestern province of West Azarbaijan, produced 175 kilograms of gold bars and 110 kilograms of silver bars in the last fiscal year (March 2015-16). The mine became operational in late 2014 and is one of Iran and Middle East’s richest gold deposits. It holds 108 tons of proven reserves, in addition to 50 tons of silver, Minews reported.
