EghtesadOnline: New import regulations passed by the Cabinet indicate that vehicles no more than a year old can be imported into the country.

The new ruling that was passed last week was proposed by the Ministry of Industries, Mining and Trade, Financial Tribune's sister publication Donya-e-Eqtesad reported.

Since 2012 up to now, Iranians could import cars that were not over three years old.

The ministry wants to introduce a uniform method regarding car imports to be able to verify quality car imports and prevent the import of used cars. The new measure is said to be in line with the government's plans to upgrade car import regulations to meet global standards, according to Financial Tribune.

Head of Iran's Auto Importer's Association, Farhad Ehteshamzad has warned that the first and most direct impact of the new measure will be "an increase in the price of imported cars."
