Iran favors more cultural heritage trainings

EghtesadOnline: Deputy Director of the Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization has called for promotion of training in cultural heritage in regional countries.

Mohammad-Hassan Talebian made the remarks in the inaugural session of the first International Training Workshop on the Museum Environment and Preventive Conservation, that was held in Golestan Palace.

The Public Relations Research Institute of Cultural Heritage and Tourism (RICHT), quoted Talebian as pointing to the diversity and number of historical monuments in Iran, which has turned the entire country into the country of cultural heritage and once again reiterated the importance of training in regional countries and stressed Iran’s readiness to continue holding such events, according to IRNA.

Head of Iran ICOM (International Council of Museums), Seyed Ahmad Mohit Tabatabaei, and, Head of the Golestan Palace Museum, Nosrati, in turn talked about the history of the palace and its historical and artistic values.

Meanwhile, Abdolkarim Shadmehr, Administrative-Financial Deputy of RICHT introduced research centers of the Institute and available capacities for supporting joint research projects.

The lecturers of the workshop and foreign participants expressed satisfaction over the capacity of the workshop and called for continuation of training activities in that regard.
They urged preparing the ground for joint cooperation with museums and other foreign cultural heritage centers.

The First International Training Workshop on the Museum Environment and Preventive Conservation was sponsored by the Research Center for Preservation and Restoration of Historical-Cultural Monuments of the Institute for Cultural Heritage and Tourism.
It was held with the cooperation of Cultural Heritage Deputy Office of the Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization, ECO Cultural Institute, the International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM) and the English Heritage with the support of the International Department of Environment and Sustainable Development at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The first International Training Workshop on the Museum Environment and Preventive Conservation is aimed at upgrading the knowledge of the curators and protectors of museums and active trustees of the cultural properties in museums.

The participants in the workshop became acquainted with modern methods and experiences in the world in relation to the measurement of environmental variables, methods to control them and prevent serious damage to museum collections and delay repair needs, crisis management and pest management in museums.

The lecturers of the workshop were from the International ICCROM Center and the English Heritage with the cooperation of experts of the Institute for Preservation and Restoration of Historical-Cultural Monuments.

The specialized workshop was held in five days by discussing preventive preservation experiences in Iran and related issues and environmental conditions of museums in theoretical and team models while visiting Iran National Museum, Abgineh Museum and the Armenian Museum.

At the end of the training workshop, with the presence of the head of the Institute and foreign participants, discussions were held on the quality of classes and during the closing session certificates were presented to the attendants.

Participants in the workshop were from the ECO member countries, including Iran, Turkey, Pakistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, and from among directors and professionals of museum and its preservation and restoration. Also representatives of domestic museums such as Iran National Museum, Golestan Palace Museum, Niavaran Palace Museum, Tehran Sacred Defense Museum, Carpet Museum, Reza Abbasi Museum, and the National Bank Museum attended the course.

Other participants included the Grand Southeast Museum of Zahedan, Isfahan museums, Dabir Azam Museum of Kermanshah, Kerman Paleontology Museum, Haft Tappeh and Choghazanbil Museum, the Document Center and Oil Industry museums as well as Anatolia Civilizations Museum of Turkey, Lok Virsa Museum of Pakistan, National Museum of Kazakhstan, the State Museum of History of Kyrgyzstan, and the Erebuni Historical-Archaeological Museum of Armenia.

The green museum is a museum which enjoys sustainable conditions in planning, implementation and the necessary equipment. In this regard, the green museum project has been defined for the evaluation of environmental conditions of the Iranian museums, preparing the map of threatening risks and finally presenting mechanisms for preventive preservation.

The project was launched in 1394 (2015/2016) by the Institute for Preservation and Restoration of Historical-Cultural Monuments and with the cooperation of the RICHT, the National Committee of Iran’s Museums (ICOM) and the target museums.
