EghtesadOnline: Eighteen railbuses are due to join Iran’s rail fleet by March 20, which marks the end of the current Iranian year, a deputy minister of roads and urban development said.

Saeed Mohammadzadeh stopped short of mentioning the company or companies supplying the wagons, IRNA reported.

The Islamic Republic of Iran Railways signed a contract with Iranian Rail Industries Development Company eight years ago to manufacture 150 railbus wagons.

“IRICO produced 16 wagons in the last Iranian year (March 2015-16), in addition to the 56 it had previously delivered,” Morteza Moqaddami, the company’s CEO, said.

According to Financial Tribune, a railbus is a very lightweight passenger rail vehicle that shares many aspects of its construction with a bus, usually having a bus, or modified bus, body and having four wheels on a fixed base.
